The Puerto Vallarta Sexual Diversity Subdirectorate, in collaboration with the real estate firm Donner & Associates, hosted a business meeting with more than 50 business owners and entrepreneurs from the Zona Romántica area on Wednesday, July 15, 2026.
The meeting, held at the real estate company’s offices on Insurgentes Street, served as a preliminary session to lay the groundwork for a new council, association, or chamber of commerce dedicated to the neighborhood’s prosperity.
Carlos Plascencia, director of sexual diversity, and Alberto Martínez, chief operating officer of Donner & Associates, led the session. The meeting functioned as an open forum to discuss local challenges, including public service deficiencies, trash collection, security, LGBTIQ+ inclusion, and the impact of the low season on businesses. Simultaneous English translation was projected on a screen to ensure English-speaking attendees could participate.

Plascencia and several attendees emphasized the need for collaboration, noting that teamwork is essential to ensure these issues become priorities for the local city council. Additionally, business owners were encouraged to complete an online survey to help identify key private-sector concerns and develop a targeted action plan.
The initiative follows an initial meeting on June 30 at Daiquiri Dick’s on the Beach, where the subdirectorate gathered local business owners and government officials to discuss trash collection, sewage, and Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) service issues in the Zona Romántica.
During the Wednesday meeting, Plascencia explained that the initial gathering had already led to tangible results: trash collection hours in the area have been adjusted to 6:30 a.m., 2 p.m., and 7 p.m. New signage has also been installed to encourage compliance, and fines will be issued to those who dispose of waste outside of the scheduled times.
Plascencia also reminded attendees of the upcoming Diversity Week, a public event scheduled for July 30 through Aug. 1 in the streets of the Zona Romántica. The event will feature talent from Drag Race México Latina Royale and concerts by national artists. The full schedule of events will be released soon. The festival is expected to become an annual event, drawing visitors to help offset the impact of the low season.
Before adjourning, organizers and attendees agreed to meet again in one month. The exact date and location of the next session will be announced in the coming days. For updates on future meetings, follow the Puerto Vallarta Sexual Diversity Subdirectorate Facebook page.
