Mother Demands Prosecution for Hate Crime

A man identified as “Manuel N” has been arrested and charged with the murder of Michel Castro.

The Jalisco State Prosecutor’s Office informed Mrs. Basilia Guizar, mother of the victim, that the alleged perpetrator, Miguel “N”, has been arrested in compliance with an arrest warrant issued this Tuesday by a judge. This news comes after a troubled process of investigation, search for justice and social pressure.

Ms. Guizar expressed her deep gratitude to the media and the community in general for the support and solidarity shown during this difficult process. “Society’s support has been essential to achieve compliance with the arrest warrant and advance in the clarification of this crime,” he said.

In search of forceful justice, Mrs. Guizar demanded that the judge grant the link of the case to the process and order informal preventive detention for being a hate crime as stipulated in article 219 of the penal code of Jalisco. “It is vital that the motivation behind this violent act is recognized and a clear precedent is set,” said Movement for Equality in Mexico, MOVii.

On the other hand, in response to the lack of action on the part of the Special Prosecutor for Disappearance of Persons, Mrs. Guizar decided to file a complaint with the Jalisco State Human Rights Commission, denouncing the violation of her rights. His determination and perseverance in seeking justice have been exemplary.

Meanwhile, the Movement for Equality in Mexico, MOVii, has been accompanying the legal process and will collaborate with a defender specialized in criminal law in addition to accompanying other administrative matters.
