Looking for that special spot to have a fantastic dinner with friends? If so, look no further than Kitty Cat, an elegantly eclectic gay restaurant/bar that opened in early January, 2023.
The incredible space sparkles with an uplifting, flamboyant theme. Visiting on a late January evening, as the soft sounds of jazz played overhead, I relaxed and enjoyed the ambiance.
The intimate bar, which is proudly adorned with a rainbow flag, is located in a quiet corner of the restaurant. Nearby is an incredible painting, a Friends themed tribute to; Frida Kahlo, Vincent van Gogh, Girl with a Pearl Earring by Johannes Vermeer, Salvador Dali, and at the very bottom of the exulted pile of beautiful faces is the Mona Lisa by Leonardo da Vinci. Next to this is another painting, that of a man with the large head of a Zebra atop his hipster suit.
A stately black sphinx stands guard to the right of the entrance, and immediately to the left are a large set of golden wings, channeling either Gabriel, or Lucifer, depending on what one envisions. The warm staff welcomes each guest into the black and white themed room that is juxtapositioned with two walls of blue, which brightens and softens simultaneously.
A long brick wall, trimmed in blue, is adorned with paintings and large mirrors. It provides a backdrop to a row of tables with comfortable black suede seating on one side and stylish white leather covered armchairs on the other. Sparkling table settings provide that touch of sophistication.
Just outside the front entrance sit luxuriously comfortable sofas, the perfect spot to enjoy a cocktail and catch the evening breeze and incredible sunsets from the Pacific, a short distance below.
I had the pleasure of meeting Kitty Cat Manager, and visionary Jonathan DeLoach, and his dedicated team that make Kitty Cat sparkle. Jonathan originally hails from Nashville, but has lived in London, Costa Rica, Mexico City, and other locations throughout the Republic, before settling in Puerto Vallarta in September of 2023.
His vision is to create an unparalleled concierge style dining experience that combines the sounds of jazz, soul, blues, house music, with talented musicians and even a piano man.
A highlight will be drag shows that offer underground, alternative ballroom drag culture. These spectacular and lively events lasting well into the night, will feature well known, and up and coming artists of immense talent.
Turning to the eclectic menu, I was blown away with the diversity of options offered. An amazing fusion of seafood, Asian inspired entrees, homemade soups, high end American comfort food, as well as a fresh catch of the day is certain to delight.
Everything on the menu is made fresh daily, and the Chefs, who specialize in fresh seafood, are happy to do a personalized fresh catch of the day, with notice provided. Special menu options are available for private parties, specifically catered to their needs. Jonathan smiled as he shared his favorite menu option, the Sesame Crusted Tuna.
The craft cocktails are out of this world, and Jonathan’s fave on the drink side is the refreshing Vodka Cranberry, and absolutely any Tamarindo infused cocktail they serve. Kitty Cat is offering fun promotions daily, and Bear Week specials are soon to be announced.
Before I departed, Jonathan shared his thoughts on what makes Kitty Cat unique. He paused, and with reflection stated, “We want to create a space where gay culture can flourish, and everyone feels welcomed, embraced, and celebrated for who they are.”
That vision and the world class staff that he has assembled are sure to make Kitty Cat a must, for all who are searching for that touch of luxury with a laid back Vallarta flair.
