Vallarta Pride announced Wednesday, July 8, 2026, that Javier Jiménez is stepping down as president of the festival after eight years of leadership.
“The Puerto Vallarta businessman closes a cycle that helped transform the festival into one of the benchmarks for LGBT+ pride in Mexico and Latin America,” the organization said in an official press release. “His departure marks the beginning of a new chapter for the organization, but it also invites us to look back and recognize the path traveled.”
Throughout Jiménez’s tenure, Vallarta Pride consolidated alliances among private enterprise, local authorities, and tourism promotion agencies. This collaboration fueled the festival’s growth and international projection.
“His work also brought the Puerto Vallarta name to Pride stages in different parts of the world, including New York, strengthening the destination’s international presence and positioning Vallarta Pride as a recognized brand beyond our borders,” the organization stated.
The press release also highlighted Jiménez’s social and community focus, noting that he managed fundraising efforts during Vallarta Pride events to benefit various local nonprofit organizations and causes. Additionally, the release cited achievements such as securing national and international artists for the entertainment lineups of recent editions.
Jiménez is a longtime local businessman and owner of Grupo Garbo, which includes Garbo Piano Bar, Margarita Cantina, and Industry Night Club, among other flagship LGBT+ businesses. In November 2025, the Confederation of National Chambers of Commerce, Services, and Tourism (CONCANACO SERVYTUR) recognized his company as an “Emblematic LGBTIQ+ Family Business.”

While Vallarta Pride organizers have not revealed who will assume the presidency following Jiménez’s departure, an announcement is expected in the coming weeks.
