Increased security, financial assistance and a focus on repositioning tourism strategies were announced at a press conference by Pablo Lemus Navarro, the Governor of Jalisco.
The press conference was held Thursday, February 26, 2026, at the Puerto Vallarta International Convention Center, with Governor Navarro flanked by public authorities including local Mayor Luis Munguía and Jalisco Secretary of Tourism, Michelle Fridman.
The Governor detailed the strategic measures finalized during the most recent State Security Board meeting, specifically addressing the incidents that occurred on Sunday, February 22, 2026.
The meeting featured a robust assembly of leadership, including the State Security Cabinet, high-ranking officials from the Mexican Army (SEDENA), the Navy (SEMAR), and the National Guard, alongside municipal presidents from across the region. Governor Lemus confirmed that the additional federal forces recently deployed to the region will maintain a long-term presence to bolster patrolling efforts and ensure the safety of both local residents and international visitors.
Addressing concerns regarding urban mobility and the aftermath of the recent disturbances, Governor Lemus pledged that all remaining damaged vehicles would be entirely removed within a 24-hour window. He clarified that there are currently no active blockades within the municipality; the existing obstructions are merely remnants of the previous events being cleared by transit authorities. Furthermore, the Governor reassured the public that the municipal transportation system is operating at full capacity.
Economic Reactivation and Tourism Strategy
Beyond security, the Governor convened a strategic session with tourism business owners. During this meeting, he unveiled an economic reactivation and tourism repositioning strategy designed to safeguard Puerto Vallarta’s reputation as a safe destination.
“The State Government will provide unwavering support to Puerto Vallarta and its municipal leadership. We are going to move this city forward together,” Lemus stated, emphasizing a unified front between the different levels of government.
The recovery plan includes several direct benefits for the local business community:
- Administrative Relief: Businesses affected by the recent events may resume activities without the burden of paying for remodeling licenses or other bureaucratic permits related to damage repairs.
- Financial Assistance: The Jalisco State Fund for Enterprise Promotion (FOJAL) will provide a dedicated pool of resources, including low-interest credits and financial aid, to support local commerce.
Councilwoman Melissa Madero, who attended the sessions, commended the speed of the state’s response.
“Puerto Vallarta thrives on tourism, but above all, it thrives on the hard work of its people. Today, more than ever, we require coordination, responsibility, and results,” she remarked.
Crisis Management and Global Promotion
Michelle Fridman, the Jalisco Secretary of Tourism, detailed the crisis management protocols implemented during and after the incidents. She announced that the Ministry is currently working on specialized promotional campaigns to strengthen the destination’s image and is securing high-profile events for the region to accelerate economic recovery.
Secretary Fridman also confirmed that the Puerto Vallarta International Airport is fully operational and that at no point was the safety of tourists compromised.
“It is essential to note that we have maintained a ‘saldo blanco’ (zero casualties or injuries to the public),” Fridman highlighted, underlining the effectiveness of the protective measures taken.
Urban Improvement: Malecón Supervision Tour
Concluding the day’s agenda, Governor Lemus and the Municipal President of Puerto Vallarta conducted an inspection tour of ongoing urban improvement projects. The delegation walked from Hidalgo Park to the southern end of the Malecón, accompanied by leaders from the hotel and restaurant sectors.
The authorities reviewed the progress of infrastructure works on Avenida México and the boardwalk, reaffirming that Puerto Vallarta’s development remains on track. This inspection serves as a visual confirmation that the city remains open for business, committed to infrastructure excellence, and dedicated to the well-being of its citizens and visitors alike.
