First homoparental adoption in Jalisco

A 5-year-old boy who was abandoned at 2 days old. He is adopted by a couple of women, thus being the first homoparental adoption in Jalisco.

Palmira Martínez Gallardo Valdés and Gabriela Flores Castro were volunteers at the shelter where the boy lived. In this place they helped with the care of the minors.

The shelter was the same place where they met the little infant and after a long coexistence with him, they came to have a very good connection. What prompted them to adopt the little boy and carry out all the legal procedures.

The little boy Ricardo, had a difficult childhood. Since he was abandoned at 2 days old and was never claimed by any family member. On November 19, 2015, he was sheltered by agents of the Public Ministry in a shelter.

In March 2018, it was made available to the Procurator for the Protection of Children and Adolescents (PPNNA). It was until January 15, 2020, that the Tenth Family Court granted institutional guardianship to the shelter.

The empathy process between the couple and the child began on February 15 of this year. Those were very long days for everyone involved. Until finally, on May 24, the adoption ruling in favor was concluded.

On July 13, the minor obtained his birth certificate now with the new surnames of both mothers. Carrying out the procedure before the Official Office number 1 of the Civil Registry of the municipality of Zapopan. Thus becoming the first homoparental adoption in Jalisco and taking a big step in the rights of the lgbt community.

Now Palmira Martínez Gallardo Valdés, Gabriela Flores Castro and Ricardo Martínez Gallardo Flores live happily with all the options given by law.
