Puerto Vallarta is expected to see a surge in tourism during the Easter holiday period, with hotel occupancy projected to exceed 80 percent as tens of thousands of visitors arrive in Jalisco’s leading beach destination.
Holy Week has begun, and visitor numbers at Mexican tourist destinations are steadily increasing. The trend is expected to peak from Thursday through Saturday, when most of the country observes days off.
Preliminary figures estimate that from March 30 to April 5, Puerto Vallarta will receive about 67,000 visitors. That influx is projected to generate average hotel occupancy of 80 percent, with approximately 150,000 room nights occupied and an economic impact of about 1.6 billion pesos.
For the following Easter week period, officials estimate an additional 62,000 visitors, with average hotel occupancy of 75 percent and an economic impact of roughly 1.5 billion pesos.
Based on historical travel patterns, those figures could increase due to last-minute bookings, vacation rentals and stays with family and friends.
In response to the expected surge in domestic tourism, security forces from municipal, state and federal levels, along with the Mexican Army, have reinforced civil protection, lifeguard, road safety and public security operations in Puerto Vallarta to help ensure a safe holiday period.
