On a momentous day for the community, the Vallarta Diversity Network, made up of eleven organizations dedicated to promoting the rights and inclusion of the LGBTIQ+ community, organized the Caravan for Equality, culminating in the signing of ten commitments by candidates for municipal presidency.
In Las Juntas, Margarita Quintero, from the Fuerza y Corazón por México coalition, signed her signature in support of the LGBTIQ + community, accompanied by Alan Hinojosa, gay candidate for councilor. In the Plaza of Ixtapa, Laurel Carrillo, candidate for councilor, signed representing Luis Munguía of the Green Ecologist Party of Mexico.
In Plaza El Pitillal, Luis Escoto, gay candidate for councilor, and Benito Gutiérrez, candidate for trustee, signed on behalf of Chuyita López, from Morena, in addition to delivering the printed document signed by the candidate for Municipal President.
The candidates Melisa Madero for the Futuro party in Parque Lázaro Cárdenas and Alonso Camacho for the Labor Party in Parque Hidalgo, signed the commitments, reaffirming their support for more inclusive policies.
In the Sauces Park, Ramón Guerrero of Movimiento Ciudadano, in the company of the gay candidates for councilors Luis Tello and Carlos Plasencia and the candidate for federal deputy Yesica Zatarain, signed the commitments highlighting the creation of the sexual diversity directorate.
Finally, for the Hagamos party, Luz Amparo Delgado, accompanied by Marisela Marín, diverse candidate for councilor, signed the document of 10 commitments in Plaza Infonavit.
The Caravan for Equality was a testimony to the continuous work of the organizations Colectivo Vallarta LGBT, Conexión LGBT, Diverso Vallarta, MOVii, PV Lesbian Pride, Seremos Padres, Transties, Vallarta Gay Plus, Vallarta Pride, Vallarta Queer and Vallarta Trans to influence the configuration of inclusive policies in Puerto Vallarta.
This tour, which included the raising of the diversity flag in six public squares (Las Juntas, Ixtapa, Pitillal, Parque Lázaro Cárdenas, Parque Hidalgo and Plaza Infonavit), as well as in the Vallarta high school of the UdG and in the presidency municipal, not only highlighted the importance of political solidarity with the LGBTQ+ community, but also reinforced the fundamental role of organized civil society in promoting equality.
The Vallarta Diversity Network continues to advocate for a more inclusive future, demonstrating that collaboration between community and political leadership can lead to significant advances in equal rights.
10 commitments from the candidates
to the Municipal Presidency of Puerto Vallarta
in favor of sexual and gender diversity
- Establishment of a Sexual and Gender Diversity Office, by regulation, in charge of coordinating with the other areas of the city council public policies and programs in favor of the LGBTIQ+ population.
- Constitution, by regulation, of the Municipal Sexual and Gender Diversity Council, made up of leaders, actors and key sectors of the LGBTIQ+ population to guarantee their representation in municipal decisions.
- Periodic holding of the Diversity Town Hall, as a mechanism for citizen participation to discuss and promote inclusive and respectful policies for sexual and gender diversity.
- Creation of the Human Rights category of the Puerto Vallarta Award, to recognize and make visible actions in favor of equality and non-discrimination in the city.
- Harmonization of the Police Regulations and the Civic Justice Regulations on Human Rights, to guarantee respectful and fair treatment of the LGBTIQ+ population.
- Reform to the Regulations to Prevent and Eliminate Discrimination in the Municipality of Puerto Vallarta, with the creation of a body specialized in addressing claims and conciliation procedures related to any type of discrimination.
- Strengthening the Municipal Committee for the Prevention of HIV/AIDS (Comusida), through budget sufficiency, provision of adequate supplies and human resources for comprehensive and efficient care.
- Establishment of an affirmative action to label 5% of the different social programs of the City Council for the benefit of the LGBTIQ+ population and continuity in the program to strengthen diverse families of the Municipal DIF.
- Continuity in the training of the municipal police in matters of sexual and gender diversity, with the establishment of a special action protocol and the installation of a qualified police station in the Romantic Zone to guarantee security and respect for the LGBTIQ+ community.
- Permanence and strengthening of institutional actions for the visibility of sexual and gender diversity, such as flag raising, the preservation and dissemination of LGBTIQ+ memory and the organization of cultural, sporting and leisure events to promote inclusion and respect for diversity in Puerto Vallarta.
