The Vallarta Gay+ Community Center hosted Mexican poet Erik Moya on Thursday evening for the presentation of his latest poetry collection, titled “Armisticio.”
Moya, a member of the LGBTQ+ community and winner of the 2018 National LGBTTTI Poetry Prize, shared the history behind his work and recited selections for the audience. The author described “Armisticio” as his most personal collection to date, representing several years of work.
Eduardo Pérez Turner produced the event, which was hosted by Ignacio Hernández, who delivered the opening remarks and introduced Moya. Originally from the state of Michoacán, Moya holds a degree in Spanish language and literature from the Universidad Michoacana San Nicolás de Hidalgo and currently resides in Puerto Vallarta. He is a member of the organizing committee for the National Meeting of Young Poets of Morelia and an active member of the Organization for the Promotion and Diffusion of Michoacán Literature. In 2015, he received a special mention at the Morelia International Film Festival. His debut collection, “Cruising Morelia,” won the 2018 National LGBTTTI Poetry Prize.
Following the reading, attendees participated in a question-and-answer session and purchased books. Moya signed copies and mingled with guests over complimentary appetizers and agua fresca. Organizers expressed their gratitude to the Vallarta Gay+ Community Center for hosting the event, including director Pedro López, who attended and congratulated Moya.
