Cindy Monkhouse-Buczek, BeefDip Week Host and Founder’s Sister, Dies at Age 60

Cindy Monkhouse-Buczek, sister of BeefDip Week founder Steve Buczek, passed away on July 31, 2023 after a sudden onset of  spinal meningitis.

Cindy was a familiar face to BeefDip Week attendees, acting as a host with a warm welcoming smile at the registration table to her fun and infectious laugh. 

Steve Buczek announced her death on social media networks, saying:

“With heavy hearts, we bid farewell to a beloved member of our BeefDip Bear Week family, Cindy Monkhouse-Buczek, who passed away last Monday. Cindy was not only one of the hosts of BeefDip Bear Week, but she was also a vibrant soul who touched the lives of many in the Bear community and beyond.

Cindy’s infectious energy and warm spirit were a driving force behind the success and joy of BeefDip Bear Week for many years. Her passion for creating a safe and welcoming space for Bears and their admirers brought people from all walks of life together, forming lasting friendships and cherished memories. Cindy’s laughter was contagious, and her genuine kindness left an indelible mark on everyone she encountered.

Beyond her role as a host, Cindy was a friend, confidant, and a source of unwavering support to countless individuals. She leaves behind a legacy of love and acceptance, reminding us all to embrace our true selves and celebrate our uniqueness.

As we mourn the loss of Cindy Monkhouse-Buczek, let us also celebrate the beautiful moments she shared with us during BeefDip Bear Week and throughout her life. Her spirit will forever live on in the laughter, camaraderie, and love that define this cherished event.

Cindy was 60 years old. Her obituary reads: “Cindy was the wife of Terry Monkhouse for 36 years, mother to Matthew and Michael. Beloved daughter of Joseph Buczek and the late Barbara Buczek. Sister to Steve Buczek, Kim Graham (Mark), Michelle Smith (Katrina) and Dear sister-in-law to Tracey Holdway (Doug). Cherished Aunt to Nathan, Jasmine, Morgan, Cody, Jake and Noah. Predeceased by mother and father-in-law, Shirley and Ivan Monkhouse. Cindy was loved by many aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and a special lifelong relationship with Shelley Post. 

Cindy worked at Guelph Hydro in the customer service department for 33 years, where she made many lifelong friends. Cindy’s greatest joy in life was spending quality time with family and friends, traveling to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico and making time for anyone that needed her help. The family extends Thanks to the Doctors and Nurses at Guelph General Hospital, Hamilton General Hospital and Toronto Western Hospital.

Arrangements entrusted to Gilbert MacIntyre & Son Funeral Home, Hart Chapel, 1099 Gordon St, Guelph. Cindy will be laid to rest beside her mother at Marymount Cemetery on Thursday August 10, 2023, at 11:00am.

“I’m in total shock since Cindy has been my rock since the day I was born. I love you to the cosmos and back and will speak to you nightly when I talk with Mom,” Steve wrote on his Facebook page. “Rest in power, I love you sister. Thank you for always taking care of me. Your little brother Steve, xoxo. I’ll miss you so much!!!!!!!!!”
