Wings for Life World Run, the world’s largest running event dedicated to finding a cure for spinal cord injury is officially planting roots in Puerto Vallarta, with a first edition taking place on Sunday, May 10, 2026 at 5:00 a.m. Organizers have announced that the Malecón will serve as a new annual home for the race, marking a major milestone for the city’s presence on the international sporting stage.
In addition to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico City will host a major activation for the App Run at Chapultepec Park, offering participants a completely different but equally iconic race experience. Runners will move through a historic forest setting along scenic trails, with vendor partners providing complimentary products, free Red Bull to keep participants energized, and special guest appearances by notable Mexican influencers and athletes.
Founded by Red Bull, the Wings for Life World Run is a global movement with a singular mission: finding a cure for spinal cord injury. The event features a unique “Catcher Car” format:
Global Synchronization: Every participant across the globe starts at the exact same moment.
The Chase: Instead of a static finish line, a “Catcher Car” begins its pursuit 30 minutes after the start at 14 km/h and steadily increases its speed. Once the car passes a runner, their race is officially over.
Direct Impact: 100% of all entry fees go directly to life-changing spinal cord research. Last year alone, more than 310,000 participants from 191 nationalities took part, contributing to over 70 million USD raised globally.
Global Mission, Local Movement
The 2026 edition of the Wings for Life World Run in Mexico is presented nationally by Dream Houses LLC, leading the event’s expansion and growth across the country. And supported by prominent LGBTIQ+ community pillars .
Local leaders including The Tryst Hotel, Villa Tita, and The Corner Bar have stepped up to drive the grassroots energy that defines the race.
“This is what happens when a global mission meets a local movement,” organizers stated, emphasizing that the event is as much about community bonding as it is about medical research.
In Mexico City, partners including Martí Group, Tim Hortons, and Out Running Social Club will play a key role in shaping the activation, with more partners to be announced in the coming weeks.
To encourage participation, “Team Tryst” and “Team Tita” have launched a high-stakes recruitment drive. Participants who register for 240 pesos and join either team are eligible to win luxury Vallarta experiences:
