Vallarta Pride organizers said that LGBTQI+ tourism generated an estimated 2 billion pesos for Puerto Vallarta’s economy during May 2026, with approximately 240,000 visitors traveling to the city for Pride Month and related events.
The figures were released in a post-event economic report by the Vallarta Pride organizing committee, which hosted this year’s festival from May 17-24. The committee credited much of the economic impact to the city’s Zona Romántica, the center of Puerto Vallarta’s LGBTQ+ community and the primary venue for Pride events.
According to the report, the neighborhood attracts more than 2 million visitors annually, with LGBTQ+ tourism accounting for an estimated 40% of the city’s tourism-related gross domestic product.
The organization recognized the fundamental role of Puerto Vallarta’s Romantic Zone in this economic impact, noting it serves as the central hub for LGBTIQ+ activity and the home of Vallarta Pride events. The area accounts for more than 2 million tourists annually, meaning around 40% of the local tourism GDP is related to “pink tourism.”
Supported by the municipality and the state through the Tourism Trust, the organization stated that Vallarta Pride is the event with the greatest impact on room-night generation in the destination. The group cited data from the Tourism Information System of the State of Jalisco, which recorded 1.309 billion pesos in lodging from domestic tourism in May—the highest in six years. “This strengthens Puerto Vallarta as a leading destination for LGBT+ tourism,” the statement read.

The LGBT+ Commerce and Tourism Association of Puerto Vallarta celebrated the increase in domestic tourism and the arrival of 240,000 community tourists during May. Vallarta Pride is the first Latin American pride event twinned with NYC Pride and has a presence at pride events in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Vancouver, and World Pride in Amsterdam.
Today, Vallarta Pride has the institutional support of the Diversity Council, the Sub-directorate of Diversity, and the Municipal Council of Diversity. It also has community backing from the Vallarta Gay+ Community Center and Red Diversidad, institutions that work to add social content and protect the struggles of activists and entrepreneurs with decades of organization.
As an act of inclusion, the march was led by Red Altruista Vallarta, and activist Juan Jacobo Hernández Chávez, a pioneer of the LGBT+ movement in Mexico, served as the ambassador for the community’s rights agenda in Puerto Vallarta.

Following the growing participation of the tourism industry—including Viva airline, Vallarta Adventures, Grupo Garbo, Almar Group, Tryst Hotels, ETN, Gecko Rent-a-Car, and The Westin Resort & Spa Puerto Vallarta—Vallarta Pride solidifies its position as one of the main tourism and economic drivers of Puerto Vallarta, generating an economic impact of 2 billion pesos during May.
