Opal Bar PV has joined the busy bar scene in Puerto Vallarta’s Zona Romántica, introducing a polished lounge experience defined by crafted cocktails, understated design and a focus on connection.
In a district defined by high-energy clubs and late-night dance floors, the venue offers a deliberate shift in pace—one where music remains present but measured, and the experience centers on connection, atmosphere and craft. It is not a departure from the neighborhood’s energy, but rather a rebalancing of it.
Opal Bar PV officially opened April 1, 2026, at 230 Ignacio L. Vallarta St., directly across from Paco’s Ranch and just steps from the intersection with Calle Lazaro Cardenas, one of the busiest nightlife corridors in the city. The location places it squarely within the flow of the evening, while its concept offers an alternative to the intensity found just outside its doors.
Inside, the space is designed with intention. Air conditioning, lounge-style seating and large-format screens create a comfortable setting that encourages guests to settle in rather than move through. At the center of the room, a wide bar anchors the experience, defined by wood accents, a crisp white countertop and mirrored shelving that reflects an extensive selection of spirits. The design is understated but deliberate—elegant without excess, and cohesive without feeling staged.
The concept is led by businessman Pedro Avilez, a third-generation jeweler from Taxco, Guerrero, marking his first venture into the nightlife sector. However, the project finds its true balance through the involvement of Carlos García, who joins as a strategic partner and key participant in the development of the concept.
García has been a fundamental piece in the evolution of the Opal&Co brand, contributing a modern, digital, and creative vision that complements Avilez’s heritage, discipline, and aesthetic sensitivity. This combination—tradition and modernity—is directly reflected in the essence of Opal Bar PV.
In many ways, the bar is the meeting point between two worlds: the precision, detail, and elegance inherited from fine jewelry, paired with a contemporary execution focused on experience, technology, and brand narrative. It is this synergy between Avilez and García that defines the venue’s DNA.
The bar’s name is a direct reference to the opal, a mineraloid known for its shifting colors and layered depth.
“It is a gemstone frequently associated with passion, unity and warmth,” Avilez said. “The entire Opal Bar PV team aims to deliver those ideals through service, attentiveness and the quality of our drinks.”
That philosophy carries through the space. Beyond the main lounge, a more intimate back area offers a quieter environment, with large screens playing music videos that complement rather than dominate the setting. It functions as a secondary experience within the venue—more private, more contained, but still connected to the overall energy of the bar.
For those drawn to the outdoors, a terrace with high tables and stools extends the experience onto the sidewalk. From there, guests can remain part of the neighborhood’s rhythm while maintaining the more relaxed tone that defines the venue.
Operations are supported by a team of bartenders and servers, alongside manager Tomás Navarro, a Puerto Vallarta native with experience across LGBTQ+ bars and clubs in the Zona Romántica. His familiarity with the local scene brings a level of operational confidence to a concept that is intentionally distinct.
“The menu was crafted with special care to create something different, elevated and of high quality,” Navarro said.
The cocktail program reflects that intention. Rather than overwhelming with volume, the menu is curated to emphasize balance, presentation and consistency. It includes a selection of martinis, mezcal-based drinks, house tonics and beer, each designed to align with the bar’s overall aesthetic.
Among the highlights are the “Opaline Kiss,” combining melon liqueur, kiwi and pineapple juice; the “Afterdark Espresso,” made with Absolut Vodka, espresso and Kahlúa; and the “Citrus Whisper,” featuring Bombay Gin, St-Germain liqueur and tonic water. Each drink arrives with a level of presentation that reinforces the venue’s attention to detail without becoming theatrical.
While Opal Bar PV is not positioned as a performance-driven space, entertainment remains part of its offering. The bar plans to host drag performances at select times, working in collaboration with local artists to integrate shows that complement, rather than define, the overall experience.
That balance—between energy and restraint, between social and sensory—may ultimately be what sets the venue apart. In a neighborhood known for its vibrancy, Opal Bar PV introduces a different kind of draw: one rooted not in volume, but in atmosphere.
