Wyatt Christopher Maxwell, also known as Louis Whitaker, has been granted an extension in his trial proceedings that are now scheduled for Monday, April 29, 2024.

Initially slated to commence on February 12, 2024, Maxwell’s attorney, Chelsea Wilson, an assistant federal public defender, requested the extension to allow for continued discussions regarding a potential plea bargain deal. Additionally, there is an ongoing inquiry regarding supplementary discovery that contributed to the need for the extension.

He has maintained a plea of not guilty to the charges leveled against him, including attempted production of child pornography, distribution of child pornography, transportation of a minor, and possession of child pornography, all in violation of federal statutes.

Following the return of a five-count indictment against Maxwell by the Grand Jury on February 7, 2023, he was apprehended in Puerto Vallarta and subsequently extradited to the United States by the U.S. Marshals. Maxwell was formally arraigned on March 27, 2023.

Judge Jill A. Morris, presiding over the case, emphasized that further extensions would only be considered under extraordinary circumstances. A pretrial conference has been scheduled for April 10, 2024, to assess the progress of the negotiations and case preparation.
