The advocacy group Movement for Equality in Mexico (MOVii) and Grindr for Equality have launched “Ya Estuvo Suave,” a campaign designed to provide legal counsel and community support to LGBTQ+ individuals facing discrimination, violence, or abuse of authority in the Puerto Vallarta and Bahia de Banderas area.

The campaign is being promoted through Grindr, a widely used social networking and dating application for the LGBTQ+ community. In-app advertisements direct users to a website developed by MOVii, where they can access resources and schedule online legal consultations. You can seek advice and find those resources at moviimexico.org/yaestuvosuave.

Organizers said the initiative aims to improve access to justice for victims of discrimination, hate-motivated violence, police misconduct, and violence against transgender women.

Legal experts will review each case to determine the best course of action, which could include criminal, administrative, civil, or human rights proceedings.

“We frequently assist people who know that something unfair happened to them, but they do not know where to start,” said Victor Espindola, president of MOVii. “Often, the main obstacle is not a lack of rights, but a lack of information on how to exercise them. This campaign seeks to provide guidance, support, and tools so that no one has to face discrimination or violence alone.”

The campaign’s slogan, which translates colloquially to “Enough is enough,” uses a popular Mexican idiom to express rejection of injustice. Through the initiative, MOVii aims to foster a culture of reporting abuses and ensuring effective access to justice and protection mechanisms.

In addition to legal advice, the website will refer users to specialized public human rights agencies, prosecutors’ offices, and victim support centers.

Organizers noted that partnering with Grindr for Equality leverages digital platforms to reach individuals who may lack nearby support networks or awareness of available legal options.
