New York comedian Susan Jeremy makes her Puerto Vallarta debut with her comedic production, “Robert Will Show You the Door: Tales of Being… Fired.” The show will run on February 27, 28, and March 6 and 7, 2026, at 8 p.m. at the Art Vallarta theater (Pilitas 213, Zona Romántica).
Written and performed by Jeremy, this solo performance revisits her personal experiences of being terminated from nearly every job she has held. Her history includes roles as a 16-year-old Arthur Treacher’s employee, an Italian bakery clerk, a Radio City Music Hall usher, a roller-skating Virginia Slims cigarette seller, and a substitute teacher in a psychiatric ward. As her promotional materials state: “Jeremy always gets the boot—she is shown the door!”
Throughout the 60-minute performance, Jeremy portrays 15 different characters, demonstrating her range in voice manipulation and physical comedy. “By the end of the play, the audience feels like they’ve seen at least five people on stage, but it’s just me,” she notes. This multifaceted talent traces back to her childhood: “I was always putting on wigs all over the house and imitating people.”
The show also serves as an imaginative tour of Jeremy’s native New York City, featuring iconic locations that have served as the backdrop of her life. These performances follow a successful engagement in San Miguel de Allende in late January, which drew nearly 100 attendees. This run marks her Mexico premiere after a career spanning the United States, Canada, and Europe.
As an openly gay performer, Jeremy emphasizes the production’s universal themes: “It’s a show about resilience that everyone can relate to, even if they’ve never been fired. It’s about starting over and finding your self-worth.”
In addition to Robert Will Show You the Door (2020), Jeremy has written and performed six other one-woman shows: She Was a Great Dad (2017), Teacher in the House (2012), Brazil Nuts (2010), Moving in Reverse (2005), PS 69 (2000), and Was That My 15 Minutes? (1998). Her latest work-in-progress, The Game of Bluff—3 Generations of Women Gamblers, was a finalist at the Spark Theatre Festival at The Chain Theatre in Manhattan in September 2025. She plans to premiere this new work in Canada later in 2026.
Jeremy has been featured at major comedy and fringe festivals, including Just for Laughs in Montreal, the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, and the Dublin Gay Theatre Festival. Her accolades include “Best Comedy” and “Best Production” at the Montreal Fringe, seven “Best of Fest” wins across Canada and Minnesota, and “Best Touring Show” at the Hamilton Fringe.
