Coco Cabaret will host the national finals of the KWC México Global Music Contest on Aug. 3-4, bringing 28 finalists from across the country to Puerto Vallarta to compete for a chance to represent Mexico at the Karaoke World Championships in Las Vegas this fall.
The venue announced the event on its Facebook page, calling it an honor to host “this amazing event.” Doors open at 4:30 p.m. both nights, with the show beginning at 5 p.m. and running approximately three hours, according to the Coco Cabaret website. Tickets are priced between roughly 300 and 325 pesos and are available through Coco Cabaret’s box office and Eventbrite.
The two-night format will showcase singers who have advanced through regional qualifiers and preliminary rounds held around the country, including local auditions at Puerto Vallarta’s La Catrina Cantina, a nearby cabaret venue known for its karaoke nights. Puerto Vallarta has built a reputation in recent years as a stronghold for Mexico’s karaoke scene: local singer Luis Villanueva won gold for Mexico in the duets category at the 2023 world championships in Panama, performing alongside partner Diego Mendoza Martínez.
Puerto Vallarta will send four finalists — more than any other city in the field:
- Patriz, 20, a Canadian-born singer and actor who moved to Puerto Vallarta as a teenager while managing Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS) and Hypermobility Spectrum Disorder (HSD). She got her start at an open-mic night at Incanto piano bar and went on to perform in “Mamma Mia!” at Act2PV and premiere the sold-out show “Amy Winehouse Forever” at The Palm Cabaret. Her repertoire includes musical theater, R&B, pop and jazz.
- Raúl Torres, who works as an aeronautical operations officer and performs ballad, pop, ranchera and regional Mexican music.
- Vizente, a singer and actor whose repertoire spans bolero, ballad, ranchera and lyrical pop.
Mirián, whose repertoire includes pop, ballad, musical theater and pop rock.
The other 24 national finalists represent cities across Mexico, including three from Guadalajara — Charly Vary, Khrystyan D’León and Adeli — along with competitors from Chihuahua, Nayarit, Oaxaca, Veracruz, Nuevo León, Tabasco, Mexico City, Sonora, Puebla, Hidalgo and the State of Mexico.
Among them is Jairo Cruz, a tenor from Tula de Allende, Hidalgo. Genres represented across the field range from mariachi, banda and norteño to opera, jazz manouche, R&B and heavy metal.
Some finalists advanced through regional qualifiers, including live auditions held at Puerto Vallarta’s La Catrina Cantina, a nearby venue known for its karaoke nights.
Actor and singer Alberto Ponce will host the event. Ponce began performing at 15 and has worked in hotels, bars and theaters; he released his debut single, “Volver Atrás,” this year.
A four-person judging panel will select Mexico’s representative: BigiWorld, a singer who has performed at Mexico City’s Auditorio Nacional and Lunario and appeared on “La Voz México”; Luis Villanueva, a KWC 2023 world champion in the duet category; Leo Kay, a singer and vocal coach; and Ricardo Tovar Acevedo, who holds a degree in mixed arts and has more than 25 years of teaching and performing experience.
The winner will represent Mexico at the KWC World Finals, scheduled for Oct. 25-29 at the Veil Pavilion inside the Silverton Casino in Las Vegas.

KWC, short for Karaoke World Championships, was founded in Finland in 2003 and bills itself as the world’s largest international talent competition, drawing singers from dozens of countries each year.
