LGBTQ+ organizations in Puerto Vallarta signed a document with the Jalisco State Directorate of Sexual Diversity this week, outlining shared priorities on health, culture and justice.
The Vallarta Diversity Network met with Viviana Arce, director of sexual diversity for the state government, during a listening tour for Jalisco’s Sexual Diversity Agenda. The session concluded with the signing of the Minimum Agenda for Sexual Diversity in Puerto Vallarta, which highlights three commitments:
- Health with dignity: Guarantee timely access to HIV-related clinical tests, including CD4 and viral load exams, without discrimination or bureaucratic delays.
- Cultural recognition: Seek designation of Puerto Vallarta Pride as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Jalisco, recognizing its history, symbolism and social contributions.
- Justice with a diversity approach: Establish a liaison at the Regional Prosecutor’s Office to assist LGBTQ+ victims and improve access to justice through a human rights framework.
Arce noted that the actions require coordination beyond her office but pledged to promote the commitments with other Jalisco state agencies.
The Vallarta Diversity Network includes Conexión LGBT, Diverso Vallarta, MOVii, PV Lesbian Pride, Seremos Padres, Transties, Vallarta Gay Plus, Vallarta Pride, Vallarta Queer, IncluY, Orgullo Sincrodestino PV and Vallarta Trans.
Network members called the signed agenda an important step and said they expect the process to continue through monitoring, collaboration and evaluation with a focus on community needs and human rights.
