“Iguana,” set against the backdrop of Puerto Vallarta, delves into the complexities beneath the surface of the popular destination. An advance review published March 10 by Literary Titan calls the book a “masterfully crafted mystery” and a “gripping narrative.”
The review praises the novel for exploring “the darkness lurking beneath the surface of paradise,” where characters grapple with their pasts, ethical dilemmas, and cultural clashes. Literary Titan highlights the “vividly portrayed setting” and “compelling” blend of suspense and character study.
Meis, who lives in both San Leandro, California, and Puerto Vallarta, brings a wealth of experience to his writing. A graduate of Tulane University in New Orleans who grew up in Decatur, Illinois, his extensive travels informed his early published work, which included travel articles, poems, and reviews in publications such as The Advocate, LA Weekly, In Style, and Our World during the 1980s and 90s.
“Iguana” marks Meis’s eleventh novel. His previous works span several publishers and include award winners. His bibliography features “Eddie’s Desert Rose” (2011), “Tio Jorge” (2012), which received a Rainbow Award, “Down in Cuba” (2013), winner of two Rainbow Awards, “Deluge” (2016), also a Rainbow Award recipient, and “Four Calling Burds” (2019), all with Fallen Bros Press. Later novels include “The Mayor of Oak Street” (2021, NineStar Press), followed by three novels with Spectrum Books: “First Born Sons” (2023), “Colton’s Terrible Wonderful Year” (2023), and “The Long Journey to You” (2024).
Meis also published a collection of his short stories in 2021, and his stories have appeared in anthologies, including “WITH: New Gay Fiction.” His time living part-time in Puerto Vallarta provides an authentic foundation for the setting of his latest novel, “Iguana.”
The Sunday event offers fans and new readers an opportunity to acquire the book and engage with Meis about his work.
