On Friday, October 24, 2025, during a Historic Center Citizen Council meeting, it was confirmed that the Zona Romantic Friendly District will be one of the tourism projects to be implemented in 2026 with resources from the Puerto Vallarta Tourism Trust (Fidetur), with an investment of 10 million pesos.
The project seeks to consolidate the Romantic Zone as an inclusive, safe, and accessible space for the LGBTQ+ community, residents, and visitors, reaffirming Puerto Vallarta’s identity as a leading destination for diverse tourism.
The proposed actions include:
- Pedestrian crossings and inclusive signage with Pride colors.
- Improvement of roads, street furniture, and universal accessibility.
- Creation of pedestrian zones, bike paths, and social spaces.
- Murals and urban art on walls and intersections.
- Public restrooms, information booths, and a pet-friendly beach.
In addition, the plan will integrate cultural and gastronomic activities geared toward diversity, inclusive tourist routes, and awareness campaigns to promote equality and respect.
In a press release, local LGBTQ+ leaders praised the decision.
“The Vallarta Diversity Network is confident that the implementation of this project will foster collaboration between sectors, organizations, businesses, and the LGBTQ+ community, ensuring that the Friendly District is built with a shared, representative, and inclusive vision,” the release said.
“With this decision, the Historic Center Citizens’ Council supports a historic step toward the consolidation of Puerto Vallarta’s first official Friendly District, a project that will strengthen inclusion, safety, and economic development in the city’s tourist heart,” said the leaders in the release.
