The Vallarta Gay+ Community Center is launching a new peer support group specifically tailored for gay men aged 50 and older. The program, scheduled to debut Tuesday, June 16, 2026, from 4 to 6 p.m., aims to provide a dedicated space for connection, mutual support, and community building. Organizers note that while the draw of Puerto Vallarta is strong, navigating life as an immigrant or expat later in life introduces unique hurdles.
“Moving to a new country or community can sometimes feel isolating, especially when familiar faces, routines, and support systems are far away,” group coordinators stated in an announcement.
The weekly gatherings will feature structured social time, friendly introductions, and judgment-free group discussions. Beyond the meetings, the group plans to connect participants with local resources and organize optional social outings around the city.
A primary focus of the group will be the specific joys and complications of aging as a gay man in Mexico. Scheduled discussion topics include maintaining dignity and independence while aging abroad, navigating local physical and mental healthcare systems, and seeking new companionship later in life.
The group will also tackle a common issue for local expatriates: coping with isolation, particularly during the quieter off-season months when the tourist crowds thin out and many seasonal residents return north. The program is fully sponsored by the Vallarta Gay+ Community Center.
Individuals seeking more information about the meetings can contact organizer Al Jones by email at allisongjones@gmail.com or by phone at (323) 823-1948. The Vallarta Gay+ Community Center is located at Morelos 101, local 3B, in downtown Puerto Vallarta (above the Santander Bank).
