Are you a Queen and Freddie Mercury enthusiast? Don’t miss this phenomenal tribute at The Palm Cabaret and Bar. Roy Gomez Cruz embodies Freddie in an electrifying performance that will leave you awestruck.
I attended a recent performance and the sold out crowd was calling for Freddie, even before he took the stage. Chants of “we want Freddie,” and “c’mon Freddie” preceded his dramatic arrival.
At just the right moment, Freddie transcended the stairs wearing a flowing red velvet gown and an exquisite crown that would make any royal proud. He was followed by three dancers, all clad in white, the last one carrying a large candelabra.
The procession stopped at a grand piano where all took part in the first performance of this amazing show.
When Roy then took center stage, he announced, “welcome everybody, I’m Freddie,” as the audience exploded in a crescendo of applause.
Throughout the production, the three talented acrobatic dancers; Francisco Guizar, Bryan Santana, and Mery Zambrano performed brilliantly.
With each powerful rendition of Freddie’s greatest hits, Roy brought songs such as; Radio Ga Ga, Crazy Little Thing Called Love, We Will Rock You, and Bohemian Rhapsody vividly to life.
Throughout the production, videos of the life and times of Freddie Mercury played on the large screens behind the performers, providing a perfect juxtaposition of memories of an earlier time, with the moment now being captured onstage.
As the evening came to a close, a thunderous rendition of We Are The Champions brought the house down. It was the perfect song to encapsulate the joy that Freddie Mercury shared with so many throughout his legendary career.
After the show, as the audience spilled out onto the sidewalk along Olas Altas, I had the pleasure of speaking with Roy Gomez Cruz, who is not only the star, but also the producer of the thrilling odyssey I had just witnessed. He was humbled by the many accolades he had just received from a grateful audience, and shared his appreciation for the talents of the dancers he had just performed with onstage.
Roy also had warm kudos for the director of the show, Chris Lopez. I inquired as to his message for those planning to see The Epic Freddie Mercury in the near future, or for those who had just attended.
He responded thoughtfully, “I want to show the epic side of Freddie, the transcendence of Freddie,” he concluded with an inspirational thought, “what Freddie teaches us, is to be free, no matter what the cost, be free.”
You can catch the next performance of The Epic Freddie Mercury at The Palm Cabaret and Bar on Friday January 5, 2024 beginning at 8:00pm. Tickets start at 756.77 pesos.
