In a move to enhance public spaces and improve conditions at the city’s municipal markets, the administration of Mayor Luis Munguía spearheaded a comprehensive deep cleaning of the Río Cuale Municipal Market.
This marked the first such extensive cleaning for the well-used facility, drawing the participation of vendors, market staff, and numerous volunteers in a significant community effort aimed at benefiting merchants, visitors, and the tourism sector.
“With the participation of vendors and volunteers, more than 350 kilos of waste were removed from this space, strengthening the municipal market renovation strategy,” a municipal statement said.
Daniel Alarcón, the municipality’s Head of Markets, detailed the results of the cleanup.
“Just over 100 people participated, collecting around 350 kilos of trash,” Alarcón said. “In addition to the interior and exterior cleaning of the market, work was done on pruning and cleaning the banks of the Cuale River, which borders this space.”
Alarcón emphasized the significance of this event.
“It’s worth noting that this event marks the first time a deep cleaning has been carried out at this market,” he stated.
He also highlighted the ongoing commitment of the municipal government to improving all of its public markets.
Since October, the municipal government has carried out similar actions at the other six municipal markets. The next market to receive this intervention will be the Emiliano Zapata market.
Officials believe that maintaining high standards for these key areas directly contributes to Puerto Vallarta’s reputation as a premier tourist destination.
“These actions reinforce the municipal government’s commitment to promoting responsible maintenance of clean, safe, and functional spaces, which also contributes to Puerto Vallarta’s image as a quality tourist destination,” the municipal statement said.
Furthermore, these actions are seen as vital steps in fostering a positive transformation of the city’s environment.
“These actions also contribute to the positive transformation of our environment,” the statement added.
