Mark your calendars and lace up your sneakers! Puerto Vallarta is gearing up for the third edition of the Carrera Rainbow (Rainbow Race), a sporting event that’s much more than just a run—it’s a time of solidarity, inclusion, and social good.

Details for the race were unveiled on Tuesday, November 4, at Freddy’s Tucán restaurant in Fluvial Vallarta. With more than 1,000 runners expected, the Carrera Rainbow is set to take place on Sunday, November 16, with a prompt 8 a.m. start (warm-up at 7:45 a.m.) at the Agustín Flores Contreras Sports Unit

Open to the general adult public, the race serves as a powerful platform to promote running as a healthy activity while significantly boosting the visibility of the LGBTIQ+ movement in Puerto Vallarta and actively fighting against discrimination, persecution, and violence.

Registration costs $395 pesos and includes a runner’s kit with a commemorative T-shirt and medal. Kits will be distributed the day before, Saturday, November 15, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Agustín Flores Contreras Sports Unit esplanade.

The competition offers three inclusive categories, all open to adults 18 and over, across two distances:

  • Women’s Open (+18 years): 2K and 5K
  • Men’s Open (+18 years): 2K and 5K
  • Non-Binary Open (+18 years): 2K and 5K

The 2K route will start and finish at the Sports Unit, with a turnaround point at the Coppel Las Glorias department store. The 5K runners will journey further, turning around at La Isla Shopping Mall before heading back to the start/finish line. Participants can expect full support, including hydration points and security personnel to ensure a smooth, incident-free event.

The press conference was led by key figures dedicated to the race and the local community, including Justo Godinez, the race’s sports director; Carlos Plascencia, head of Sexual Diversity for the Puerto Vallarta Government; William Arreola Camacho, director of the Municipal Sports Council (COMUDE); Ricardo Josue Martínez, director of the Puerto Vallarta Institute of Culture; and Robert Bisor, owner of Villa Tita.

Plascencia congratulated the organizers for creating an event that not only welcomes the LGBTQ+ community but is firmly established as “a space for everyone, people of all sexual orientations and genders.”

Arreola Camacho echoed this sentiment, noting: “The race celebrates the inclusion, respect, and pride of who we are. It reflects the free and diverse spirit of Puerto Vallarta.”

Registration is open now via WhatsApp at (322) 201 1745 or through the event’s social media channels (Facebook and Instagram).

Beyond the finish line, the Carrera Rainbow is committed to making a difference. Plascencia said that the race proceeds will be directed toward a social project, cause, or civil association yet to be selected.

As part of this initiative, in the past, the proceeds from the first year of the race benefited the civil association dedicated to the prevention of sexually transmitted diseases, SETAC, and the local Ballroom house, Kiki House of Paradise. The second edition, meanwhile, had the Vallarta Gay+ Community Center and the English classes of the Focus on Green project, directed by instructor Zack de la Cerda, as beneficiaries.

Plascencia invited local civil associations, collectives, and social projects to apply to be beneficiaries of the 2025 Carrera Rainbow proceeds. Applications must be submitted via email to carrerarainbow.pv@gmail.com between November 4 and 12.

Requirements for interested groups include:

  • A formal request letter explaining the project’s purpose.
  • Copy of the ID of the project leader.
  • For legally constituted associations: Acta Constitutiva, RFC (tax ID), and proof of address.
  • A brief summary of activities demonstrating the group’s social impact.

The selected beneficiary will be officially announced on November 26, 2025.

The Carrera Rainbow is proudly supported by local government and key organizations like COMUDE, the Commerce Chamber (Canaco), Vallarta Pride, and the Mexican Sports Federation of Diversity, alongside corporate sponsors such as Gatorade, Villa Tita, Medassist, and Diagnóstica.
