The Puerto Vallarta municipal government has begun operating a new garbage collection system across the city, officials said Wednesday, introducing updated collection schedules by neighborhood and new disposal guidelines for residents.
The rollout, led by Mayor Luis Ernesto Munguía González, started Wednesday afternoon, when collection trucks were deployed along approximately 50 routes designed to serve neighborhoods throughout the municipality.

As part of the changes, residents are now asked to place garbage bags at designated street corners rather than directly in front of homes or businesses, a shift officials say is intended to streamline pickup and improve efficiency along routes.
The city has also released updated collection schedules organized by neighborhood, with authorities encouraging residents to review the times and routes on the municipal government’s official Facebook page.
The launch event was held at the city’s solid waste transfer station in the Magisterio neighborhood, where officials outlined the system’s logistics and goals.
Rodolfo Domínguez Monroy, director of Efficient Services, said the effort represents a significant operational challenge that will require coordination between city workers and the public.
“We will continue to do our job every day, as the Public Works crew always does, always giving their best for Puerto Vallarta,” Domínguez Monroy said.
Under the new system, garbage collection is organized into three daily shifts: morning (7 a.m.), afternoon (2 p.m.) and evening (7 p.m.), allowing for continuous service throughout the day.
City officials said service will continue uninterrupted during Holy Week, including Holy Thursday and Good Friday, when visitor numbers increase and waste generation typically rises.
The initiative is part of a broader effort by the Munguía administration to strengthen public services and maintain cleanliness across the city, particularly as Puerto Vallarta enters one of its busiest tourism periods of the year.
