On the evening of Friday, May 15, 2026, activists, local authorities, and community members gathered at the Puerto Vallarta Malecón for a march to observe the International AIDS Candlelight Memorial. This global event honors those who have lost their lives to the syndrome, while promoting awareness, prevention, and the fight against the stigma surrounding people living with HIV.
The walk stretched from the north end of the Malecón (in front of McDonald’s) to Los Arcos. Along the route, attendees dressed in white carried candles and signs with messages commemorating the cause.
Among the local authorities who attended and addressed the audience during the event were Enrique de Jesús Ortega, head of COMUSIDA; Sandra Luz Rodríguez Miramontes, director of CAPASITS Puerto Vallarta; Ana Patricia Martínez, assistant director of Addiction Prevention; and Julio Curiel from the Youth Integration Center. They were joined by activists Víctor Espíndola and Everardo Galván. Carlos Plascencia, head of the Sexual Diversity Department, also attended the march.
At the conclusion of the memorial event, attendees enjoyed live entertainment, including a performance by singer Stella Rosas.
