Salvador “Chavo” Domínguez and Alberto “Beto” Ávila, a gay couple originally from Mexico City, recently opened Lulú Pan Francés Café, specializing in sweet and savory French toast and offering a fresh take on a breakfast classic. The café is located in Plaza Romy, Local 5, Zona Romántica, and opens daily from 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.
Chavo and Beto started this business venture in 2020, during the pandemic. Chavo and Beto worked from home for marketing and social media, and started sharing their homemade breakfast creations on Instagram stories. Their friends and followers quickly took notice, leading them to launch a meal service specializing in Beto’s unique French toast recipes delivered by apps.
In 2021, the couple moved to Puerto Vallarta as Beto was offered a new job and four years later the place they now call home has provided them with the opportunity to re-embark on their project with a physical location to continue their culinary passion.
The business name is a tribute to Chavo’s mother, Lourdes, who used to make French toast for her children. The café revisits this cherished recipe, adding new and local sourced ingredients to make it more exciting and delicious. Chavo and Beto plan to add dishes like chilaquiles to their menu in the coming weeks and hold an official opening event.
“Lulú is the place where we share some of the love life has blessed us with, and where we’ll always be glad to have you,” Chavo said.
Beyond the food, Lulú Pan Francés Café offers a vintage and artistic atmosphere. The owners feature works from local artists, which are available for sale, and customers are welcome to use their vinyl player to enjoy some music while they enjoy their meal. Starting October, 2025, Chavo and Beto plan to host a series of workshops by local artists, including painting, ceramics and yoga.
