On February 24, 2025, in the City Hall of the H. City Council of Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, the session of the Permanent Municipal Commission on Substantive Equality and Diversity was held, in which a proposal was approved to strengthen inclusion and respect for human rights in the municipal public administration.
Within the framework of the session, training for municipal public servants in human rights, sexual diversity and gender equality was authorized. This initiative seeks to ensure that municipal institutions provide more inclusive and respectful attention, contributing to the construction of an environment free of discrimination.
The approval of this training represents a significant step in the commitment to equality and awareness of government personnel.
Likewise, a review was presented on the creation of the Diversity Department, a strategy aimed at institutionalizing actions that guarantee access to services and rights on equal terms for the LGBTIQ+ community, which was promoted by groups such as MOVii and the Vallarta Diversity Network.
As part of the agenda, there was the participation of social activist Kenya Cuevas Fuentes, who gave a message on the importance of inclusion in public policies and the need to continue generating inter-institutional work spaces that promote respect for diversity and non-discrimination.
The session reaffirmed the commitment of the Building Commission to the promotion of public policies that foster substantive equality, equity and recognition of the rights of all people. With these actions, Puerto Vallarta is moving towards a more inclusive governance model, in which diversity is a fundamental pillar for the construction of a more just and equitable society.
