One of Puerto Vallarta’s oldest gay bars, Bar Frida, will soon be getting a new home – at Fco L. Madero 418, the former home of what used to be The Salty Caesar (which closed in early 2024).
“We are very happy,” said owner Tom Finley. “It’s a big move and it’s on a wonderful street.”
Finley said the new space is more than double the current space, and will be completely remodeled and include a new kitchen, a new bar, and will carry the name Bar Frida and Restaurant.
Recently Finley took over the kitchen operations, where for the past 24 years the restaurant was operated as a separate business inside the bar, and patrons received two checks – one from the bar and one from the restaurant. Now customers will receive one check and Bar Frida’s also just started accepting credit cards.
“We will have patio seating outside,” Finley added. “It’s a great location – close to all the action – and are just a block and a half from the current Reina’s, where it all started.”
This will be the fifth location for Bar Friday since it opened 24 years ago. The first Frida’s opened where the current Reina’s bar is now – on Lazaro Cardenas. Bar Frida’s 2.0 opened on Insurgentes and was there for 11 years. Bar Frida’s 3.0 opened at Lazaro Cardenas 481, in 2020, and Bar Frida 4.0 opened its current location at the corner of Venustiano Carranza and Naranjo street in the fall of 2022.
Finley expects the move to be completed and the bar to be open by Mid to late July of this year.
