The Puerto Vallarta Municipal Government, through the Department of Equity and Fight Against Inequality, has officially launched its call for the 2026 Diversity Council (Cabildo de la Diversidad). Local LGBTQ+ residents are invited to apply and help shape the city’s future.

The council aims to present and promote initiatives for inclusive public policies, equal rights, and the eradication of discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity. The body will be composed of 17 participants who must be at least 18 years old, Mexican by birth, identify as part of the LGBTQ+ community, and have at least three years of documented residency in Puerto Vallarta.

Application Requirements

According to the official announcement, interested parties must submit a “Municipal Initiative” (either in writing or via a 5-minute video). This proposal should outline projects, reforms to municipal regulations, or specific actions that foster diversity, inclusion, and non-discrimination.

Applicants must also provide the following documentation:

  • Cover Letter: A brief description of your background and your motivation for joining the council.
  • Official ID: A valid copy of your INE, Passport, Driver’s License, Professional License, or Residency Letter.
  • Proof of Residency: A utility bill or similar document no older than 3 months.
  • The Initiative: Your written proposal or video (on a USB drive).
  • Signed Declaration: A formal statement confirming your identity as part of the LGBTQ+ community and providing contact details (email and phone).
  • Restrictions: Current city council members and public servants from any level of government are ineligible. Additionally, those who have served on the Diversity Council in previous years may not apply.

Important Deadlines

  • Application Period: From March 19 to April 30, 2026.
  • In-Person Submission: Applications can be dropped off at the Department of Equity and Fight Against Inequality, located at the Municipal Palace (Independencia #123, Centro) between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.

Results

The final selection will be published on May 8, 2026, via Puerto Vallarta’s official government website and social media channels. Selected participants will also be notified directly.

As part of the process, an organizational meeting with the selected participants will be held on May 15. The official session of the Diversity Council will then take place on May 17, 2026, in the City Council Hall (Salón de Cabildo), held in observance of the International Day Against LGBTQ+phobia. The agreements resulting from this exercise will be referred to municipal commissions for analysis and potential presentation before the full City Council (Ayuntamiento).

The official call states that the session will be open to the public and broadcast through official channels to ensure transparency and civic participation.
