Galleria Dante will host Mexican painter Antonio Bárcena as part of the South Side Shuffle art walk from 6 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, February 6, 2026.
Located in the heart of the Zona Romántica, the gallery—one of the city’s longest-standing art spaces—invites the public to view Bárcena’s latest work and engage with the artist in an evening featuring live music and cocktails.
About the Artist
Antonio Bárcena has gained international recognition for a vibrant style characterized by themes of peace and optimism. His academic background includes a degree in Animation and Digital Art from Tec de Monterrey, a specialization in Illustration from the Escuela Coco in Alicante, Spain, and theological studies in Pensacola, Florida.
Bárcena’s career extends beyond the canvas into film and media. He recently appeared as an actor in the fifth season of the series The Chosen and was featured in the music video for “Bachadril” by urban artist Redimi2. His exhibition history includes:
- “Good Days” (2017): A solo exhibition at the Palacio Clavijero.
- “Flowers and Smiles”: Showcased at Artell Gallery in Pensacola, Florida.
- Global Art Awards: A nomination for art and painting in Dubai.
Currently, his work is represented by prominent collectors and institutions, including SD Art Advisory in San Diego. Alexander Salazar, a Harvard-educated curator, has described Bárcena’s aesthetic as “unique and peerless.” Beyond his professional accolades, Bárcena is an active advocate for social development projects that support low-income families in Mexico, Cuba, India, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Live Demonstrations and Participating Artists
The evening serves as a broader “Meet the Artists” event. In addition to Bárcena, attendees can observe the creative process firsthand through live demonstrations by painters Jean Jacques Hudon and Romeo de la Cruz, and sculptor Gustavo López.
Other artists scheduled to attend include Julia Swann, Richard Gibbons, Louie Pisterzi, Marcia Coppel, Jean Gabriel Lambert, Cherie Sibley, Bill Megrail, Ana Tatya Neri, Gerald Gallant, Luc Gauthier, and Munroe.
The event coincides with the South Side Shuffle, a neighborhood tradition where eight galleries, jewelry stores, and boutiques remain open for a self-guided tour.
Galleria Dante is located at 269 Basilio Badillo in the Zona Romántica. Its sister restaurant, Di Vino Dante, is situated on the second floor and serves diners Monday through Saturday from 1:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.—an ideal choice for those staying for dinner after the event.
