Out & About PV Magazine (O&APV) is excited to announce the addition of Christian Alexis Velasco as its new editor and associate publisher. A native of Puerto Vallarta, Christian brings over a decade of experience in the publishing and hospitality industries. Now, he’s ready to share important stories from the LGBTQ community with readers.
Christian will be responsible for the editorial content in the online and print editions. He will also be assisting with business development and business operations.
Christian holds a degree in Communication Sciences from the Guadalajara LAMAR University and has previously worked with local publications like Vallarta Lifestyles and Vallarta Real Estate Guide. Most recently, he served as an operations manager at a boutique hotel in the Romantic Zone.
“A few years ago, I collaborated with the publication as an occasional writer, and now I’m excited to join the team fully and continue its work of communicating the standout stories of our LGBTQ+ community and continuing to build bonds among its members,” Christian said.
Outside of his professional life, Christian enjoys acting with the local theater group Dionisio, traveling, exploring new restaurants and cafes, and relaxing on the beach. He’s currently pursuing an online diploma in Sustainable Cultural and Nature Tourism from the UNAM and is fluent in Spanish, English, and French.
Jerry Jones, publisher and founder of O&APV, said he was excited to welcome Christian to the team as the magazine continues to build community through its reporting and very popular Gay+ community mixers.
Founded in 2018, Out & About Puerto Vallarta debuted with a glossy print magazine focused on local LGBTQ+ life, entertainment, and travel. Its launch party was held at Hotel Mercurio that March, and the magazine has since become a fixture in the city’s media landscape. While the print edition now publishes three issues per year, the bilingual digital platform provides daily coverage of community news and events.
Jones, who previously owned Out & About Nashville for nearly two decades, said the Puerto Vallarta publication was created to spotlight local news, the people and culture that shape one of Mexico’s most prominent LGBTQ+ destinations.
“At O&APV, we are committed to highlighting voices that reflect the diversity and strength of our community,” Jones said. “Christian brings both professional experience and a personal connection that will help us continue to grow. He has a deep understanding of Puerto Vallarta and the LGBTQ+ community. His experience and passion for storytelling make him the perfect addition to our team. Our readers can expect community news and engaging stories that celebrate the people and culture of Puerto Vallarta while addressing the issues that matter most.”
