Glass, aluminum, cardboard, and plastic collection program will operate Monday through Saturday
Puerto Vallarta has taken a significant step toward environmental protection with the launch of the Environmental Route, a new program designed to collect glass, aluminum, cardboard, and plastic from various neighborhoods. The initiative aims to foster a culture of waste separation and reduce overall waste in the city.
Operating Monday through Saturday, the Environmental Route is a collaborative effort between the Luis Munguía administration and the Environmental Network, signaling Puerto Vallarta’s commitment to a cleaner, more sustainable future.
Two electric trucks will service an average of 10 to 16 neighborhoods, reaching more than 18,000 homes to collect recyclable materials.

Environmental Route 1:
- Monday: Ixtapa
- Tuesday: Versalles
- Wednesday: Las Juntas
- Thursday: Fluvial Vallarta
- Friday: La Aurora
- Saturday: Centro Pitillal
Environmental Route 2:
- Monday: UDG
- Tuesday: Centro Vallarta
- Wednesday: Mojoneras
- Thursday: December 5
- Friday: Vallarta 500
- Saturday: Hotel Zone
Javier Navarro, Director of Efficient Services, announced that awareness campaigns will be launched to inform residents about the new routes. Additionally, the “Environmental Heroes” program is already underway in schools to promote waste separation among children.
Horacio Guerra, CEO of Red Ambiental, emphasized that the new route moves Puerto Vallarta closer to becoming a more sustainable city. Terrance Vincent O’Halloran Lepe, Manager of Sustainability and Territory, speaking on behalf of Mayor Luis Munguía, underscored the government’s vision and dedication to maintaining a clean city and reducing waste reaching the ocean.
