The expansion of Terminal 2 at Puerto Vallarta International Airport is 40% complete, officials said Friday (March 21, 2025), during a site visit by Jalisco’s Secretary of Tourism Michelle Fridman Hirsch.
Fridman Hirsch toured the Terminal 2 site alongside officials from the Pacific Airport Group, which operates the airport. Once finished, the expanded Terminal 2 is expected to serve more than 8 million passengers annually. Puerto Vallarta’s airport is one of five in Mexico that handle 90% of the country’s international air traffic.
“Puerto Vallarta is already a world-class destination, and with infrastructure projects like this and private investment, it will continue to grow,” Fridman Hirsch said. “This expansion benefits not only Puerto Vallarta but also Guadalajara.”
The project will add more than 89,000 square meters (957,000 square feet) of terminal space to accommodate domestic and international flights. In 2024, the airport handled 6.7 million travelers. Officials say the expansion will strengthen Puerto Vallarta’s status as a leading tourism destination.
Fridman Hirsch said officials are working to increase international connectivity. “We want to expand promotion and connections, not just with North America but also with South America and Europe,” she said.
The construction of Terminal 2 uses 23,000 tons of steel and 31 seismic isolators and has earned LEED Gold Certification for sustainability. The expanded terminal will feature upgraded passenger processing technology to improve efficiency.
The project is scheduled for completion by late 2026.
