Cuajimalpa City Hall to replicate the program after good results

In a big step towards inclusion and equity, the Movement for Equality in Mexico (MOVii) announced that its training model on sexual and gender diversity, implemented with good results in Puerto Vallarta, will now be replicated in the Cuajimalpa de Morelos Mayor’s Office , Mexico City.

The initiative in Puerto Vallarta was supported by Commissioner Rigoberto Flores and obeyed an instruction from Mayor Luis Alberto Michel Rodríguez, given in a meeting with representatives of the LGBTIQ+ population on September 22, 2022.

Puerto Vallarta Police have started diversity training with some clear goals..including achieving a 90% attendance rate in training courses, and evaluating the knowledge acquired through an exam with a minimum average score of 80 % among the participants.

Since then, 10 training sessions have been successfully conducted, each with 25 participants. It is expected that for the rest of the year, another 250 elements of the Vallarta corporation will be trained at the police academy facilities.

In the Cuajimalpa Mayor’s Office, it is planned to train 200 public servants in a first stage, including police officers and citizen service personnel, for which a collaboration agreement was signed this Saturday. The objectives of the program are clear: promote inclusion, respect for diversity, and prevent discrimination and violence against the LGBTIQ+ population.

The ultimate goal of the training program, which will be carried out by MOVii experts, is to provide public servants and the police with extensive and in-depth training on sexual diversity and gender identity, equipping them with the necessary tools to ensure an environment of respect and non-discrimination towards the LGBTIQ+ community.

Adrián Rubalcava Suárez, mayor of Cuajimalpa, highlighted the positive impact that he expects from this initiative. The mayor cited INEGI data indicating high rates of suicidal thoughts and attempts in the LGBTIQ+ community, and underscored the relevance of programs like this one to combat these problems.

Rubalcava Suárez emphasized that the training for public officials and police officers will be carried out by MOVii experts, which will guarantee the quality of the content, so that they can later apply the knowledge acquired during their work performance and promote a culture of respect and No discrimination towards the community.

Héctor Salazar, Coordinator of MOVii in Mexico City, commented: “We are proud to be part of this momentous effort to promote equality and respect in our society. This training program has proven to be an effective instrument in Puerto Vallarta and we are confident that it will have an equally positive impact in Cuajimalpa”.

“The success of the program in Puerto Vallarta has served as a strong impetus for its implementation in Cuajimalpa. It is hoped that the continued expansion of this program in other municipalities will foster a more inclusive and respectful Mexico, and that it will serve as an example for other regions”, declared Víctor Espíndola, General Coordinator of MOVii.
