More than 3,000 runners from 24 different countries participated in the seventh edition of the Puerto Vallarta Marathon on the morning of Sunday, April 19, 2026. Starting at 5:30 a.m., the race began at Los Arcos del Malecón. The sporting event had runners participating across several categories: 42 km (marathon), 21 km (half marathon), 10 km, and 5 km.
The competition, which has established itself as one of the year’s most anticipated events for runners, is sanctioned by the Mexican Federation of Athletics Associations (FMAA), the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS), and World Athletics. It necessitated partial road closures along a route that extended down Francisco Medina Ascencio Avenue to the northern edge of the Puerto Vallarta International Airport. Hydration stations were provided for runners at various points along the course throughout the event.
Among the participants was local councilwoman Melissa Madero, who competed in the 21 km category. On her social media, she noted: “The marathon generated an economic impact of nearly 30 million pesos, boosting hotels, restaurants, transportation, and services, while projecting Puerto Vallarta as a competitive international destination. Furthermore, with an organized operation, well-managed closures, and no major incidents reported, we proved that we can host large-scale events responsibly.”
The event enjoyed great energy and a family-friendly atmosphere, with a large number of spectators cheering on the runners along the route and all the way to the finish line.
