Ángela Verania (Verania Salazar ), a trans woman from Monterrey, was denied access to Strana nightclub in Puerto Vallarta in the early morning hours of Jan. 1, 2024.
Verania reported that, despite having friends inside the establishment with a confirmed reservation, she was prevented from entering by security personnel. The reason was uncertainty regarding which bathroom would be used inside the premises, citing alleged previous complaints from other customers.
Angela, who was just looking to celebrate the New Year with her friends, expressed her pain and frustration at the situation. She chose not to record the guard to avoid a scandal, but she wanted to share her experience on social networks to raise awareness about the difficulties faced by the trans community.
The young trans woman also mentioned a previous incident with another club called CODE, belonging to the same owners, with whom she had problems in the past and who, after a lawsuit and apparent resolution, believed that the situation had improved.
This new event shows that transphobic attitudes still persist in some areas of the city, known for being a tourist destination that attracts the international and LGBT community.
She called for awareness and respect towards the trans and LGBT community, underlining the importance of equality and the right to live freely without discrimination. She ended her message with an encouragement to the trans community to stay strong and continue the fight for equality.
