So what ARE the best things to do in Puerto Vallarta?

So what are some of the best things to do in Puerto Vallarta? I was looking for recommendations for both tourists and locals alike, ideas that did not include self-referential sales pitches. Interesting things that, you know, confirmed assumptions and, yes, surprised me.

The first article I found seemed so definitive, I couldn’t help but read it. http://aamirahspencer.wixsite.com/aamirahsmirror/single-post/2017/06/03/Puerto-Vallarta It’s a bit more of a travel diary, the writer is planning a wedding here, so may not be quite so definitive. The food recommendation, Mi Pueblito, is super touristy and, if memory serves, there’s just a couple Mexican dishes on it. This is the place that has that big buffet, and the performance floor in the middle of the restaurant. You know, if the enchiladas and the 2 for 1 margaritas weren’t so reliable, I wouldn’t even be acknowledging it now.

USNews lists also eight things to do in Vallarta and they’re ranked! https://travel.usnews.com/Puerto_Vallarta_Mexico/Things_To_Do/ The list is very beachy, but a highlight is the botanical gardens. I’ve not visited it yet, but people are raving. Even people are really botanical garden people are like, “you gotta go there!”

For the artsy among us, TripAdvisor has what appears to be a non-curated list of museums and art galleries in the city. https://www.tripadvisor.com/Attractions-g150793-Activities-c49-Puerto_Vallarta.html I say non-curated because there are forty-three of them listed here without any individual recommendations other than user-rankings.

Feather and the Wind, a travel blog, has listed 20 Cheap Things to do in Puerto Vallarta and the last five of them are free. http://featherandthewind.com/2016/08/24/x-cheap-things-to-do-in-puerto-vallarta/ (Nope, make that four; one just added an admission fee). Number one is the botanical garden (right?!) and then “hire a taxi as a tour guide,” which is a rather brilliant idea. Tequila tasting and discovering the Malecon both in the daytime and at night are other highlights.

Over at Vacation Idea the list appears to be a bit more all-encompassing. http://vacationidea.com/destinations/best-things-to-do-in-puerto-vallarta.html The Malecon is included, as it is on pretty much every list, but also there’s a recommendation for a day trip to Sayulita, and the first instance I`ve seen of a whale watching tour.

You know what’s missing? The gay specific stuff.

Hey… I’m only into my first few weeks here. I… me… I’ll get around to them myself and I’ll be sure to report on them here. In the meantime, here are some links I’ve found.
