More than 35,000 people filled the streets of Puerto Vallarta for the city’s Day of the Dead parade, a colorful celebration of Mexican culture that organizers say broke attendance records this year.

The Nov. 2, 2025 event marked one of the largest turnouts in the city’s history for the annual “Remember Me Festival,” highlighted by the unveiling of what officials described as the world’s largest Catrina — the elegant skeletal figure symbolic of Mexico’s Day of the Dead tradition.

Mayor Luis Munguía, joined by Jalisco Secretary of Tourism Michelle Fridman, led the parade and participated in the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the monumental Catrina sculpture installed along the Malecón, midway through the parade route.

“We are very grateful and very excited,” Munguía said. “We will continue this festival year after year, and it will only get better.” He also thanked Jalisco Governor Pablo Lemus for supporting the event and helping expand its international reach.

The parade began at the Panteón 5 de Diciembre cemetery and wound its way through the city to the Muelle de Los Muertos, or Pier of the Dead. More than 40 groups participated, including local institutions, associations, businesses, and municipal departments.

Spectators lined the streets as colorful floats, dancers, and Catrinas passed by, accompanied by traditional music, marigold displays, and artistic tributes to those who have passed. The Malecón was transformed into a sea of light and sound, culminating in a theatrical and musical performance that blended dance, projection, and cultural symbolism.

City officials said the growing success of the Day of the Dead celebration reflects Puerto Vallarta’s pride in its heritage and its commitment to preserving traditions that attract both locals and visitors.

“With every parade, we honor life and death together,” Munguía said. “It’s what makes Vallarta unique — we celebrate with heart, color, and meaning.”

The Remember Me Festival continues through the week with art exhibitions, live performances, and cultural displays across the city.
