The new gaming bar Playroom will celebrate its grand opening week with a lineup of events that includes a special screening of the first episode of the hit Netflix series “Boots.” The festivities run from Tuesday, Oct. 28, through Sunday, Nov. 2, at Venustiano Carranza 370 in Puerto Vallarta’s Zona Romántica.

The featured event takes place Wednesday, Oct. 29, at 7 p.m., when guests can watch episode one of “Boots”(“Reclutas” in Spanish) and join a live video chat with the show’s creator and executive producer, Greg Cope White, whose real-life experiences inspired the story.

Playroom was conceived as an LGBTQI+ safe place to connect, have fun, and express everybody’s identity, gender and sexuality; the bar is an exciting addition for our community in Puerto Vallarta.

The events announced by the venue include viewing parties, game tournaments, social gatherings, and special happy hour promotions that will welcome all types of audiences to celebrate the establishment’s formal inauguration.

On Wednesday, October 29 at 7 p.m., Playroom has scheduled a viewing of episode 1 of the popular new Netflix series, “Boots” (“Reclutas” in its Spanish version.) The show is based on the memoir “The Pink Marine,” published in 2016 by Greg Cope White. It premiered at the beginning of October 2025 on the streaming platform and has climbed to the number 2 spot for most-watched shows globally.

“Boots” tells the story of Cameron, a young gay man who enters a U.S. Marine boot camp, following his best friend in the late 70s, at a time when being gay in the armed forces was illegal. After the episode screening, attendees will be able to chat with the story’s author, writer, and Executive Producer, Greg Cope White, who will join via remote video call to answer audience questions and comments as the person who experienced those events in real life.

The screening is made possible thanks to a connection established between Playroom’s owner, Justin “Copper” Sitron, and the author’s friend and local resident, Will Murdoch. Both were introduced by the sales manager of Out & About PV Magazine, Gerwin Rutten.

In an exclusive interview with Out & About PV Magazine, Greg Cope White expressed his enthusiasm for the positive global response the series is receiving and for the event taking place in Puerto Vallarta:

“I invite the Puerto Vallarta community to attend the event and discover which character in the series they identify with. ‘Boots’ is a story that shows us how important alliances and unity are. Every minute of my experience with the Marines was difficult because I feared being discovered, and I never expected to have anyone’s support. Regardless of our gender or sexual orientation, we are never alone. It’s a message of hope,” the author concluded.

Greg is a former sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps, an author, and a film and TV writer and producer. He is highly motivated about LGBTQ+ and veteran rights, and has been featured in the PBS docuseries American Veteran and published in the military journal Zero Dark Thirty. He has also contributed to Huffington Post and hosted a show for Food Network. His screenwriting credits include three Netflix original films and projects for HBO, CBS, NBC, Disney, Fox, and Sony.

Playroom: More than a Bar, a Community Experience

For the owner, sexologist and sexuality educator Justin “Copper” Sitron, Playroom represents an opportunity to build a space where people from the LGBTQI+ community can spend their time doing things they love, talking about their interests and connecting in a one-of-a-kind way, expressing freely their sexuality, gender and identity.

The origins of the project date back to Gaymersnights, a series of events that aimed to create a gaming community in Zona Romántica back in August 2024, in collaboration with the original and successful Mexican Gaymersnights taking place in Monterrey.

“There’s a huge overlap among gamers, nerds/frikis, pups and furries, and kink/bdsm (bondage, dominance, submission and control) practitioners. So that’s why Playroom is for all kinds of play and all kinds of players,” Justin explained. The business motto: “Insert coin. Unlock yourself.”

As for the screening of “Boots”, the owner is pleased to host the event as the story shows the complexity of our lived experiences and the importance of being ourselves. “It shows what can happen to our lives if we learn together while also having fun in community,” he concluded.
