The Zona Romántica new gaming bar Playroom hosted a special screening of the first episode of the hit Netflix series “Boots” this past Wednesday, October 29, as part of the venue’s inaugural week program.
Attendees enjoyed the show, which tells the story of Cameron, a young gay man who enters a U.S. Marine boot camp, following his best friend there in 1990, at a time when being gay in the armed forces was illegal. The series is based on the memoir “The Pink Marine,” published in 2016 by Greg Cope White.
After the screening, guests were able to chat with the story’s author, who joined via remote video call to answer audience questions and comments about his real-life experiences.
Playroom owner, Justin “Cooper” Sitron, hosted the Q&A session and thanked everyone for attending the screening. He also introduced Playroom’s concept and explained that the venue aims to create community in Puerto Vallarta, offering a safe place to express our sexuality, gender, and identity freely. Cooper also encouraged anyone who has an event idea to reach out.
