The Vallarta Diversity Network (Red Diversidad Vallarta) and the Puerto Vallarta Diversity Council (Cabildo de la Diversidad) issued a press release celebrating the appointment of local businessman Carlos Plascencia as the new Head of the Office of Sexual Diversity.
The designation follows the resignation of the previous director of this gubernamental institution, Héctor “Teto” Betancourt, who cited health reasons last Friday, October 17.
Plascencia is an active member of the Vallarta Diversity Network, previously served as public relations director for Vallarta Pride, and is the secretary of the Puerto Vallarta Diversity Council—positions from which he has contributed to the coordination between civil society, the private sector, and public institutions, promoting actions for visibility, inclusion, and intersectoral collaboration. He is also a local entrepreneur who owns Aloha Bar in Plaza Romy in Zona Romántica.
The Vallarta Diversity Network (Red Diversidad Vallarta) and the Puerto Vallarta Diversity Council (Cabildo de la Diversidad) applauded the appointment of Plascencia, highlighting his active participation in community spaces and his commitment to the causes of sexual and gender diversity.
The Vallarta Diversity Network and the Diversity Council believe that this designation represents an opportunity to strengthen the institutional link with the LGBTIQ+ community, consolidate public policies with a human rights focus, and advance towards a more inclusive municipality free of discrimination.
“We express our full willingness to collaborate closely and responsibly with the Department of Sexual Diversity, with the purpose of continuing to build a municipal policy based on respect, equality, and citizen participation.,” states a press release issued by the organisations.
