The local company Grupo Garbo received the Emblematic Family Business recognition during the third Business Summit of Leaders and Family Businesses in Commerce, Services, and Tourism, organized by the Confederation of National Chambers of Commerce, Services, and Tourism (CONCANACO SERVYTUR).
This marked a milestone, as it is the first “pink business” (aimed at the LGBTIQ+ community) to receive this distinction.
The event took place on Sunday, November 23, 2025, in the city of Aguascalientes, in central Mexico. The founder and director of Grupo Garbo, local businessman Javier Jiménez, received the recognition before an audience composed of entrepreneurs from all corners of the country.
CONCANACO SERVYTUR is made up of more than 250 affiliated chambers of commerce representing 4.8 million businesses and entrepreneurs in the tertiary sector in Mexico.
“I am very proud to receive this distinction, especially because it is the first time that CONCANACO has awarded it to a business, emphasizing its trajectory and social impact on LGBTIQ+ tourism,” Javier said.
Grupo Garbo has a history of more than 20 years in Puerto Vallarta’s Romantic Zone. It was born as a family business with the opening of Garbo Piano Bar in March 2002. The success of the venture led to the subsequent creation of other LGBTIQ+ bars and nightlife entertainment centers: Wet Dreams in December 2011, Margarita Cantina in May 2013, Mr. Flamingo in January 2016, and Industry Night Club in March 2019. Subsequently, the group diversified and entered the restaurant industry with a partnership to reopen and renovate the emblematic Daiquiri Dick’s on the Beach in July 2022. The company’s reach also extended to the real estate sector with the development of the Nómada condominium in June 2023.
Part of Grupo Garbo’s commitment to the diverse community is also the organization of the Vallarta Pride festival, which takes place at the end of May every year and has achieved a partnership with the legendary New York City Pride through an alliance held in July 2025.
Supporting Vallarta Pride’s Future
While Grupo Garbo hopes to continue growing at its own pace and help consolidate the port as an LGBTIQ+ destination, Javier Jiménez calls on business owners in the Romantic Zone to invest more in Vallarta Pride so that the event can have a future and appear on the international scene. He also calls on local governmental authorities not to allow the city’s infrastructure, services, and security to fall into negligence:
“The Pride is for the whole community and often only has the support of a few. I invite more businesses to join in order to organize a dignified event,” he concluded.
