Following approval from the Technical Fare Committee, the technical fare for public transportation in the state of Jalisco will be adjusted from 10 to 14 pesos starting in 2026. This figure was calculated under a multi-year indexing model and is set to remain fixed until 2030.

Despite this technical increase—the first since 2018Governor Pablo Lemus Navarro announced a financial support strategy of 1.2 billion pesos to ensure that users do not bear the full brunt of the adjustment.

The cornerstone of this new model will be the “Al Estilo Jalisco” Unique Card. Through this system, the state government will subsidize 3 pesos per trip, allowing the actual fare for the general public to remain at 11 pesos.

  • General Fare (with card): 11 pesos.
  • Technical Fare (without card): 14 pesos.
  • Vulnerable Groups: The 50% discount remains in effect; therefore, students, seniors, teachers, and people with disabilities will pay only 7 pesos.
  • Distribution: The application process for the card will begin in January 2026, with a goal of distributing 1.5 million cards by April. Specific details regarding the process have not yet been revealed but are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.

Through his official channels, the Governor of Jalisco emphasized that while the technical adjustment is necessary due to rising fuel and supply costs, social welfare remains the priority:

“We understand the Committee’s technical arguments, but a 14-peso fare would be unfeasible and a tremendous blow to the pockets of the majority. Therefore, government support will go directly to the user and no longer to the transport operators,” Lemus stated.

Furthermore, the Governor assured that this adjustment would be sustainable in the long term: “This adjustment is the first in seven years and will be the only one of my administration,” he remarked, pledging that there will be no further increases until 2030.

Modernization: New Units for Puerto Vallarta

The fare adjustment comes with a commitment to service improvement. Recently, 31 new 2026-model units were integrated into the Puerto Vallarta fleet, representing an investment of 150 million pesos. This reinforcement includes:

  • 10 electric buses (Sunwin brand).
  • 15 natural gas units (Geely brand).
  • 6 diesel buses (Mercedes-Benz).

All units are equipped with air conditioning, video surveillance systems, and electronic payment equipment. Additionally, the consolidation of an electromobility system for Francisco Medina Ascencio Avenue is projected for later in 2026.
