Animal lovers in Puerto Vallarta will once again have the chance to make a difference when Paws for the Cause: Rolling on the River returns this January, continuing a charitable tradition that has supported homeless pets for more than a decade.
The annual fundraiser, organized by Friends of Puerto Vallarta Animals, is scheduled for Jan. 10, 2026, at La Huerta Bar & Grill, a popular riverside venue known for its relaxed atmosphere and live entertainment. Proceeds from the event will benefit animals housed at the city’s municipally run shelter, the Centro de Acopio Animal.
Founded in 2013, Friends of Puerto Vallarta Animals is a volunteer-driven organization dedicated to improving the lives of dogs and cats who arrive at the shelter abandoned, injured or neglected. The group works in partnership with municipal authorities to provide critical support not always covered by public funding, including food, medical treatment, vaccinations and spay-and-neuter services.
Paws for the Cause has grown into one of the organization’s signature fundraising efforts, drawing both residents and visitors who want to give back to the community while enjoying a social evening. This year’s Rolling on the River theme will feature food, drinks, music and raffles, with all proceeds directed toward shelter care and adoption efforts.
Tickets are priced to encourage broad participation, with organizers emphasizing that every contribution helps improve conditions for animals waiting for permanent homes. Donations will be accepted in both Mexican pesos and U.S. dollars, reflecting the organization’s international base of supporters.
According to Friends of Puerto Vallarta Animals, funds raised through events like this one help offset daily operating needs at the shelter and allow volunteers to respond quickly to medical emergencies. The organization also plays a key role in promoting adoptions and educating the public about responsible pet ownership.
La Huerta Bar & Grill, located along the river just south of downtown Puerto Vallarta, provides an open-air setting that organizers say aligns with the community-focused spirit of the event.
