The Traffic and Road Safety Department implemented preventative road closures in Las Glorias and Centro to protect the public and avoid accidents.
Hurricane Priscilla has passed by Puerto Vallarta but in its wake it has left coastal flooding and strong surf, prompting emergency authorities to close some roads. As of Tuesday morning, October 7, 2025, Hurricane Priscilla had been upgraded to a category 2 hurricane.
Affected Areas and Closures
The Subdirección de Tránsito y Seguridad Vial (Traffic and Road Safety Department), led by Katia Vargas Guillén, reported that the closures are necessary to protect the public and prevent accidents:
- Las Glorias: The lateral lane of Avenida Francisco Medina Ascencio (running from south to north) is closed. Seawater, pushed inland by the hurricane’s swell, overflowed storm drains and caused flooding in this area. Traffic officers are on-site to assist drivers and redirect traffic.
- El Centro (Downtown): The intersection of Morelos and Corona streets is closed to block vehicular access to the Malecón (boardwalk). The ocean has surged past its normal level in this area, resulting in significant water accumulation.
As of the latest report, it is located 415 kilometers west-southwest of the municipality of Cabo Corrientes, Jalisco, carrying sustained winds of 155 km/h and moving northwest at 17 km/h.
The Dirección de Protección Civil y Bomberos (Civil Protection and Fire Department) of Puerto Vallarta has issued a Red Flag warning for all municipal beaches due to dangerous surf conditions generated by Hurricane Priscilla, strongly recommending that the public:
- Do not enter or approach the shoreline.
- Avoid all aquatic or recreational activities in coastal areas.
- Heed all instructions from water rescue personnel.
- Stay informed via official communication channels.
