Celebrating 15 Years, The Swedes Nominated for ‘Best Gay Owned Restaurant’

The Swedes, celebrating 15 years in Puerto Vallarta’s Romantic Zone, earned a nomination for “Best Gay Owned Restaurant” at the 2024 Puerto Vallarta Gays Best of Awards. The nomination celebrates its enduring legacy and strong connections within the city’s vibrant LGBTQ+ community.

The Swedes Bar and Bistro opened its doors in 2009. The Swedes quickly became a beloved dining destination known for its welcoming atmosphere, fabulous drinks, and friendly service. In August 2022, Christopher Maluck, a seasoned professional in the restaurant industry, took ownership, committed to preserving the restaurant’s established traditions while introducing thoughtful updates. 

The Swedes occupies a historically significant two-story building at the corner of Olas Atlas and Púlpito streets, a location that has become synonymous with quality dining experiences. The restaurant prides itself on using the finest and freshest ingredients in its casual dining menu, fashioned for all occasions.

Adding to its accolades, The Swedes was also a recipient of the 2024 TripAdvisor Travelers’ Choice Award. This prestigious award is granted to the top 10% of restaurants worldwide on TripAdvisor, based on consistently excellent reviews from travelers. This recognition underscores The Swedes’ dedication to providing exceptional food, outstanding service, and a memorable dining ambiance for all its patrons, both local and international. The dual recognition from the Puerto Vallarta gay community and the global travel community highlights the significant role The Swedes plays in the Puerto Vallarta dining scene.
