A new gay bar has joined the nightlife scene in Puerto Vallarta’s gay district, Zona Romántica, offering inclusive entertainment, eye-catching promotions, and a space where, according to management, everyone is welcome to let loose and have fun.
The Banana Factory officially opened its doors earlier this summer (May 20, 2025), at Lázaro Cárdenas 341, and is offering food, special theme nights, signature drink specials, and a philosophy centered on community and celebration.
“This was really a blend of multiple ideas that came together over the years,” said Aroldo Fragoso Mireles, the bar’s general manager. “Justin Campese, the owner, had experience managing bars and clubs in Las Vegas and Chicago, and wanted to bring something new and inclusive to Vallarta.”
Though Campese remains behind the scenes, Aroldo credits a team of eight — including Jesus, Joselo, Mau, and Joel — with creating the welcoming and high-energy atmosphere that defines the space.
A Bar with Two Personalities
The Banana Factory is split into two distinct areas. The front bar, open daily from 2 p.m. to 3 a.m. (with happy hour from 2 to 9 p.m.) serves as the main gathering space with an open-air design during the cooler months and air conditioning in the summer.
“The front bar celebrates everyone and everything—bright colors and cheerful faces,” Aroldo said. “It’s an event-driven experience with something different happening almost every day.”
The second space, called The Playground, is designed for the “naughtier side” of the nightlife experience — a darker, more intimate setting featuring its own bar, outdoor patio and a “Naughty Room.” It is open on Friday and Saturday nights starting at 10 p.m.
Entertainment Schedule
Nightly events are central to Banana Factory’s appeal, so be sure to check their social media pages for the most current event listing.
“We tried to keep prices affordable for locals and visitors alike,” Mireles said. “We don’t charge a cover, and every night we do something different to keep it exciting.”
Food and Flexibility
The bar’s kitchen opened on August 1, offering what Mireles describes as fun, hearty options — including “The Big Daddy Butter Burger,” a Buffalo chicken sandwich, and “The Size Queen,” a 12-inch Italian sausage with grilled peppers and onions.
Banana Factory also offers flexibility for guests through a unique twist on its drink promotions.
“We give you a chip during happy hour for your 2×1 drinks,” Aroldo explained. “But unlike other places, we don’t force you to use both drinks that night. You can come back the next day, or even a month later. It’s your complimentary drink — use it when you want.”
A Place for Everyone
Aroldo says inclusivity is core to the bar’s mission.
“We wanted a place where everyone could come and enjoy themselves, regardless of their age, body type, or sexual preference,” he said. “There’s so much negativity in the world. We wanted to create a safe and positive space.”
With daily happy hours from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m., no cover charge, and a focus on themed events and affordability, Banana Factory is positioning itself as a dynamic new presence in Puerto Vallarta’s LGBTQ+ nightlife. Please check their social media for their most current hours, as they may change.
