The iconic Vallarta Pride Drag Derby made a triumphant return on Friday, May 23rd, 2025, thrilling an enthusiastic crowd after its absence from last year’s pride festivities.
Injecting new life into a beloved Puerto Vallarta tradition, was proudly presented for the first time by The Tryst Hotel, a luxury gay boutique property nestled in the heart of Zona Romantica.
An enthusiastic crowd cheered on the drag queens as they gave it their all to emerge victorious in the race described by Vallarta Pride as “adrenaline in heels.”
This year the race took place on the steps leading up to the Swedes Restaurant, as the drag queen athletes raced up the steep hill, two at a time, only to come charging back down, descending the steps near the well known Pulpito tram at lightning speed.
A vibrant pink stage was set up in front of The Tryst Hotel, featuring an array of talented drag queens performing in their dazzling finery. Competitions included a piñata contest that brought raucous cheers from the surrounding crowd, as well as a hula hoop contest that provided even more hilarity. Congratulations to everyone who competed and to The Tryst Hotel for giving new life to this iconic PV tradition.
