The LGBTQ+ community in Puerto Vallarta now has a new Inclusion and Diversity Module dedicated to supporting its vulnerable members in areas such as health, human rights, and legal and psychological counseling. Operating within the UNIRSE Administrative Center at 236 Av. de los Grandes Lagos, Fluvial Vallarta, the office is the result of a strategic alliance with the state government.
The inauguration took place on the morning of Thursday, January 29, 2026. The event was led by activist Víctor Espíndola, leader of the human rights organization Movimiento por la Igualdad en México (MOVii); Leonardo Espinoza, director of the civil association Cohesión de Diversidades para la Sustentabilidad (Codise); and Jessica Zatarain, head of UNIRSE.
The module will provide several free health services, including:
- Rapid HIV self-testing kits.
- PrEP (Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis) and PEP (Post-Exposure Prophylaxis) prevention tools, including follow-up via online consultations.
- Screening for Hepatitis B and Syphilis.
- DoxyPEP treatment to prevent syphilis, chlamydia, and gonorrhea.
Officials emphasized that these medical resources are typically high-cost, and the primary goal is to make them accessible to those who otherwise could not afford them.
Legal Support and Advocacy
Regarding legal matters, initiative leaders noted they will work closely with agencies such as the Social Prosecutor’s Office, the Justice Center for Women, the State Attorney General’s Office, and the State Human Rights Commission. These partnerships aim to provide comprehensive follow-up and accompaniment for victims of violence or discrimination based on gender identity, sexual orientation, or gender expression.
Reflecting on the milestone, Víctor Espíndola stated: “We have been fighting for several years to secure spaces, public policies, and above all, safe havens for the LGBTQ+ community and all those in vulnerable situations. That is why today is a day of happiness, pride, and gratitude for us.”
To conclude, organizers expressed gratitude to their partners, including the Cabildo de la Diversidad, Red Diversidad Vallarta, and the Vallarta Gay+ Community Center.
Location and Hours: The Diversity Module is located on the second floor of UNIRSE.
- General Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
